engine alarm on my new boat

ok just bought this boat, 2006 stingray with efi 5.0 and alpha 1 gen 2 outdrive w/ 120 hr. the guy who owned it didn't have it serviced or in the water for past 2 years. The out drive was leaking gear oil when I bought it (I fixed it) Out drive was low on fluid for sure, but hasn't been ran. So I filled it up from the bottom until it came out the top. I poured fluid into the reservoir in the engine bay (about 2 full qts for everything) So when I start it the alarm beeps. I took it out on the water and all gauges are reading ok. I checked all other fluids and everything is good. The alarm is a constant beeping... beep pause beep pause beep. one beep one pause... pretty quick pause. from the book it says " low gear fluid" .. should I replace the sensor? do they have a float that sticks?



the reservoir most likely sat empty for the last year..

to verify the sender ,disconnect the 2 wires at the bottle

So the alarm will shut off if I disconnect the sender? (means bad sender) ill give that a shot.. thanks..

Being a 2006 it probably has the PCM-555 module. Do you have the smartcraft monitor showing anything?

The warning beeps should be either constant or 2 beeps per minute. Your getting a constant beep, beep, beep ....?

yeah a constant beep beep beep more than 2 per minute. I don't know what a smartcraft monitor is? Boat is running fine, and temp at 160 oil pressure is good, volts are good, oil level good, power steering good.

from reading online they say: Intermittent continuous beeps Drive lube bottle
Check drive lube bottle for oil
and possible malfunction with
switch
If drive reservoir is full, see
dealer for diagnostics.

You may not have the monitor but if you did it would be part of the speedometer or tachometer. Constant beeps are either
Over speed
High Temp
Outdrive lube
Low oil pressure
Sea water pump low

If it is doing it at idle then it wouldn't be over speed, but the rest are possible. Now the most common is sea water pump low sensor.

Do you know your engine serial number?

do they have a float that sticks?

The gear lube reservoir should be cleaned out every other year'ish due to oil sludge build up which could affect the float sensor too. A new reservoir may be necessary though should the alarm stop when disconnecting both wires leading to the reservoir.

ill unhook it tonight and see if that turns the alarm off.. thanks.. checked out reservoirs... they are pretty cheap

well took the boat up to the lake this weekend, guess the road shook the float loose (no alarm now).... love when things fix themselves.
