Engine Alignment?

It is important that the transom thickness be within specs. and parallel. Example: One side can't be 1.5 inches thick at top and 1" at bottom. I believe that tolerances are +- 1/16" but I may be incorrect. You can consult the Adults section and you may be able to find exact tolerances. LOL

Nice drawing!!!! Key is the pivot point as you pointed out. I didn't recognize the rear engine mounts were the pivot points and assumed just the side mounts. Hey it was fun in 98F heat with 90% humidity with sun cooking on me. I think it took two days to recover lol....

Measuring the thickness at various points all the way around the keyhole the thickness is 2.008 to 2.092 on my new transom. To help maintain flatness, the two layers of 3/4 inch marine plywood were laminated on a large flat table using Titebond III and weighted down for about a week. They were then glassed to the hull transom as a single piece and clamped. The two layers were really heavy but I wanted to avoid any bow in the plywood by installing one layer at a time.

and OMC may be different? I prey for boater that it isn't. Good diagram!

OMC transoms do not have the same requirement as the Mercruiser Alpha ones. the only thing that attaches to the transom on an OMC stringer drive is the big rubber boot. My old transom was only about 1 1/2 inches thick, varied almost 1/4 inch around the big hole. I had to grind all the wood out and grind the hull underneath to get it flat on the inside.
