Engine Bogs down when throttle opened wide

Hi...Engine specs: Mercruiser V8 5.7litre 260 hp I/O.<br /><br />Question for you all. When I throw the throttle all the way...the engine bogs down for a second or two and then kicks in. Any idea what might be causing this?<br /><br />Thanks!

Could be the accelerator pump on the carb, this gives the engine an extra shot of gas while the carb is switching over from low speed to high speed circuits. If you look into the carb (without engine running) and pull the throttle all the way open do you see a couple of nice streams of fuel shoot out?

what year? Fuel injection or carb?

If it's a 260hp, it's carbed, Like BB mentioned, check the accelerator pump in the carb.

I have the same engine and the same problem. If I slowly accelerate to full its fine but if I do it quickly I get the hesitation. I will do the check noted above but assuming I find that I do not have the 2 steady streams of fuel what is the fix? Is this a carb rebuild ? Is there any risk in doing nothing and just living with it?
