I have a 1988 Bass Tracker Tourment 1800 I have a 150 Black Max on it now and it blew up I found a 175 Merc. the boat is only rated for a 150 will it hurt anything if I put the 175 on it? Im only 19 so that is why I asked if this sounds dumb Thanks for any info

There is little or no weight difference between the two engine, so that is not a factor.<br /><br />But by overpowering, you are going against the USCoast Guard rating and the manufacturers rating.<br />This illegal in many states.<br />It will most likely void your insurance policy also, and make you liable if you have an accident.

Some shops can "de-tune" your outboard for you, and certify it as such. We have HP limits here on some waters, and shops do it all the time. They even give you a new decal for the hood.<br /><br />Usually this is as easy as adjusting the throttle linkage according to HP/RPM charts from the manufacturer. Some shops will even dyno. And some manufacturers have an assortment of throttle cams, throttle stops, etc for de-tuning.<br /><br />Good luck.

Thanks alot guys that really helped the place I found the 175 is at a marina and they have a engine shop there so I will ask them about that

I have this exact same boat in an SF Model, I wouldn!t want any more power on it! Also you might not be able to enter some tournaments if you are over powered! Stick with a 150! Its capable of 60+ MPH with the right tickling, Fast enough with this hull!
