I just put a new water pump and thermostats in my engine. I am not clear on where the water is supposed to exit the engine. I have 2 exhaust outlets by my flush connector but no water is coming out of them.

I posted a video of her running

Shouldnt water be shooting out of these outlets?

Re: Engine cooling system question

Most of the water exits through the center of the propeller with the exhaust in normal operation.

Once the midsection fills with water, some water will spit from the two exhaust relief ports, but,

The flush connection should be closed when running on muffs so that the water will circulate normally.

There is a small hole in the flush connector, I assumes that was there so the water could come out?

Is it not supposed ot come out that hole?

I also have a lot of water coming out the sides of the lower unit case where it connects at the lower unit.

Is this normal?

Re: Engine cooling system question

Water will exit the gratings above the antiventilation plate. It will also exit at the seam between gearcase and midsection. You see the gap in that seam, it is intentional for that reason.

It looks like your motor is behaving fine....

I don't think that is timing. It sounds like it's coming off QuikStart before it should.

You may have to work on your carburetors a little.

what is supposed to happen and how can you tell, when it comes off quickstart.

does quick start force the idle high?

i have a similar motor and I start it with the throttle forward in nuetral and let it worm up a little and take off.... I never noticed any changes.....

thanks

Re: Engine cooling system question

QuikStart powerpacks advance the timing when the engine water is cool (< 96 degrees F. ) and should keep the timing advanced until the engine reaches > 96 degrees F., at which time it should release.

You should both hear and feel QuikStart release as the RPM should relax considerably.

If the engine is allowed to exceed 1100 RPM during warm-up, QuikStart will release prematurely and the engine will run roughly if it is still cold.

Naturally it's critical that the thermostats function properly and that the temperature switches are the correct ones for the engine and working properly as well.

ok great info, glad i asked, because I will rev it past 1100 for sure with the idea i am helping it warm up... and thus turn off the quick start feature..
