To get your boat to run higher out on the water, should you lift the motor up on the transom or down ... basically if you run the motor deeper on the transom would the boat run deep, and when you run it high on the transom will the boat run higher on top of the water? ..... I know the answer but for some reason I have lost all common knowledge today ......

Re: engine high setup ....

How high the boat rides on the water has nothing to do with how high the engine is mounted. Engine mounting height determines how much of the engine is actually in the water and therefore how much drag its creating. Drag reduces speed but does not determine ride height of the boat. Hull design determines that. Trim setting and prop selection can affect bow height and therefore how much wetted surface there is -- thats amount of the bottom of the hull in contact with the surface.

thanx silvertip, I came to my senses, you see the boats we race, does ride better on top of the water, when raising the motor higher on the transom, depending on the weight of me and my co-pilot and the conditions we ride in .... the boat's design (cat) and engine allows for that ... I got a new co-pilot, and couldn't work it out for myself ....
