1998 Merc Gen 2. Engine going in after repair. Near impossible to reach the back/sides of motor after install. What I know I need to do is the 3 ground wires on the port side rear engine block stud and one on the starboard rear block stud, power to starter, all with motor hanging. Water hose on transom side. Also I believe the trim sender bullets get connected to purple and blue bullet connectors in wiring harness?, does it matter which way? Where do the other trim wires get connected? Are they on the motor somewhere and can be done after install? Anything else so I'm not lifting motoer back out because I cant reach a connection

IIRC, the bullet connectors for the trim senders are matched male/female such that they cannot be mistaken (if/when it matters). . . but you will want to make sure you have the sender vs. the limit switch wiring sorted out and tied (somehow) to an area of the transom that will be within reach.

The engine side of the connectors should be accessible in the area of the distributor at the back of the engine. I've always connected them while/after the engine is installed.

Check your engine's wiring diagram for proper wire colors.

Having the water intake hose secured before the engine install is a good idea, since it is a tough reach afterwards.

Just remember. . . your primary concern when installing an engine should be the alignment and not necessarily hooking things up in advance. So, have the alignment bar handy and check it as you fasten the engine mounts.

I take enough color photographs before I start disconnecting.
I also put marked labels on wires and hose ends if there is any doubt due to delays.
