I took my boat out and when I go full troddle, my boat die. After a few minutes when I try to start it up again, it would start. But when I go full troddle it die again. I have a push starter or I can start it manual by pulling the cord. Finally, when I do get my boat to run it would run rough and a few minutes it would die again. This problem has happen serval times. But this has never happen before. I did notice that some smoke was coming from the engine, but this was only for a short period of time. Also the water from the upper unit was coming out in a mist spray if this would help. I checked all the basic for any possible reason why my boat keep quiting on me. I turn the gas gage on rich and then I set it on lean if this would help. Again, What could cause my boat to keep dying in me.

To my knowledge, I don't when the water pump had service if at all. I don't have any document on the maintenance or history of the boat. What do I ask the machanic when I take it in for service? Does it cost a lot to have a new water pump replace if that's the case? Is it easy to replace one by myself if I don't have any experience in engine repair?

My Johnson V4 kept on dying too. It would start and run for a few minutes the first few times and then completely quit out. Luckily we were still at the boat launch and there was a guy there with a wealth of knowledge about Johnson outboards. Turns out the motor kept on dying because the gas line had somehow crept and tangled under the steering rod which cut out the gas flow. Check your fuel lines.

Fresh fuel/oil mix? Is your fuel tank venting properly? And was this engine stored for any length of time? Best advice....order a manual. :)

Do any of you experts know any thing about boat motors? If so, tell me what you learn from your mentors.

Thanks Todd for your suggestion, However, I found a place on French Island...Honda Evinrude/Johnson Outboard Engine repair. Mike is the machanic. It is next to Fisherman's Dinner/Bob Tackle Shop.
