hello all i have a 5.7 vortec full closed cooling with raw water pump in engine i have an alpha one drive the instructions ive found when installing this engine setup say to cap the water inlet on top if intermediate housing and to leave the pump in alpha to cool the drive. as much of a pain it is to change 2 impellers im ok with this setup. except how does the water flow if it is capped has anybody rerouted? this water libe to create a drive shower or reroute it through exaust

Ayuh,...... You cap-off the transom so you don't flood the boat, 'n cut the hose outside, 'n let the water flow freely,....

Mercruiser recommends connecting the drive supply water to the incoming supply from the thru-hull fitting via a “Y” connectIon along with a valve inside the hull. With this arrangement the engine can be ran with a common flush out.

Pully or crank pump? My boat's closed cooled MC was not run in a couple of years and the crank pump's water in its line evaporated. Hence the impeller was dry. When I did crank it, the dry pump impeller disintegrated. Water could not make it way up into heat exchanger via muffs. I learned to prime by forcing water through the zinc anode connection on top of the heat exchanger. Your may need priming too.
