back where I started. cyl.1-3 get nice an warm--cyl.2-4 are ice cold, but do get warm for the first 2-3 min.s of running but then get cold. I had too replace the power pack, had a coil go bad so I put on 4 new coils.I am getting 178 volts at all coils. I have had the carbs. off 5 times(rebuild) an have gone thru 6 cans of carb. cleaner. The first few min.s of running the engine sounds real good, holds a steady 900 rpms but as soon as 2-4 start getting cool the motor starts too sputter then dies, it will restart but then goes thru the same pace........its a 1989 90hp

Have you checked the compression and spark?

Check the thermostats. Both heads should be operating at near same temp. Suspect one isn't working.

"Cans of carb cleaner" is not the way to clean your carbs. Cans will not necessarily clean the grunge out. The so called carb cleaners are for the outside of the carbs. Gunk carb and parts cleaner kit is the answer. Soak the stripped down carbs and clean per instructions. Remove all gaskets and seals before using. The cleaner will not damage plastic parts.
One side running cold indicates it is not burning fuel. Lack of spark, lack of fuel or both, could be the problem. Could be a bad head gasket letting water into the cylinders as it warms up.

I took off the thermostat housing an cranked the motor too see what kind of flow I was getting an cyl.1-3 has a very high flow rate an the water coming out is very warm, cyl. 2-4 has a good flow rate but less than on the other side but the water coming out is luke warm at best, ran the motor for about 5-8 min.s and nothing change, motor does not seem too be missing, you can put it in gear an it will reb up, not sure how high, only took it too about 3000 for a sec or two. but sounded strong, just a guess but feel like a 30+ deg. diffrence between the 2 sides.... ran out of time an forgot too recheck the spark strengh on 2-4..

Sounds like a powerpack problem. But you mentioned you replaced the powerpack...so, I guess I'm stumped too.

looks like I burned up another power pack.it lasted 2 days ( brand new ) the red wire has no ohm reading on the power pack. the coil for cyl. 4 test good, its brand new... the timer base has 42 ohms on all 4 wires, started too rain again so I didn't have time too recheck voltage............
