Out on the lake yesterday cruising at about 3200rpm's. Engine running great. All of a sudden hear rattle from engine, look down at temp gauge & it's at 240! Immediately shut down engine, open engine hatch & see that hose from outdrive to t-stat housing has come off. Hose clamp failed, water all over engine compartment. Luckily have a spare clamp, reattach hose. Engine starts hard, but immediately cools off now that hose is attached. Took it easy back to dock & all seems well. Here's a lesson I'll never forget. Never take these hose clamps for granted. They don't last forever. I coulda toasted my engine, & tomorrow I'm changing out every damn hose clamp I can find in the engine compartment. Cheap insurance. I dodged a bullet, whew! 87 OMC Cobra 3.0.
