What exactly happens to an outboard if it were to run to fast for too long with only the muffs on. What damage is done? Just curious.

Re: Engine Runaway?

Abnormal wear and stresses on the parts due to everything rattling loose in there. Premature bearing or (gasp)rod-bolt failure.

Rod bolt failure = game over for most outboards. Ever seen needle bearings in the belly pan of an outboard? It's a really sad sight. I saw it once this past summer, it was a sobering experience that caused me (and the owner) to need to make fresh drinks.

-W

Re: Engine Runaway?

yikes! After doin all the other repairs the Idle and spark advance controls/system was way outa whack!!! Had to reset everything. Whoever had this thing (which I know who they were) really did not know what they were doin (I know I'm new to this but atleast I can read, ask questions and basically figure out things). The only thing that was exactly as it should be was the initial timing seting. wow!

Oh BTW I just want to thank everyone who helped me when I was really strugling to understand what was goin on. You too CLAMS hehehe-scoobydo
