This boat was tore apart when I bought it so, it has been an up hill battle to say the least but, i will get it going!
I am not familiar this I/O boating stuff either and nothing to look at to compare to so, bare with me.
1) P/S cooler outlet... Where does that go? I have the one side connected to water pump but, don't know where other side pointing to transom goes?
2) Transom water outlet/inlet. Where does that hose go?
3) I have a T in hose from water pump to thermostat as well, I have no idea where it goes???
I only have one hose left over and it doesn't seem to fit anywhere.

All help is greatly appreciated!

Also, the transom motor mount bolts are too long and hit the exhaust? These look like specific mount bolts but, they're about 3/4" to 1" too long. I've already aligned it so it's clearly in the proper place, what am I missing here?

Thanks.

1 goes to 2. That power sterring cooler hooks to the transom connection. Thats were the water from pump in leg comes from. The others a pic would help. As for transom engine mount bolts being to long. Are they the bolts that were holding the 305? If so are the rubber mountes in the bell housing still there? Do you have a manual

There's a series of bits that sit on top of the transom mount point and through which the mount bolts pass. They stack up about an inch or so. Gotta be missing.
By the time I go get them looked up someone will have given your the scoop, but I'll come back with it if no one beats me to it.

Sorry, but you're gonna have to re-lift the engine.
Fiber washer with double wound spring washer inside it goes on top of transom plate "ears". Then the flywheel cover engine mounts. They are metal sleeved rubber bushings that will already be pressed inside the flywheel cover mount points. Then the cylindrical spacer, a steel washer and the bolts.
Here's a link to the the parts catalog, https://webapps.brunswick.com/litera...atureSearch.do. Bookmark or save that link, it's really helpful.
Put in your year, make and model for the details.
Once it's together it will need to be aligned, read about alignment in the stickies at the top of the forum.

Flipbro, I'll have to find that hose. I do believe the bolts are from the 305 originally. Yes the rubber is still there and no I don't have a manual, been looking at diagrams and info online.

No Title

1985 Sea Ray 260 Sundancer. Had 305 in it. I put 350 from a 1974 Chris Craft XK19. Replaced transom housing and lower unit due to electrolysis. I thought upper unit was ok because I could see new u-joints in it. Well, I come to install and find out gears are chewed so bad it messed up the housing, ugh!!! Bought a whole new aftermarket out drive, upper and lower, it's on its way. Yeah transom bolts where too long cuz of 305. I just ground them down so they didn't hit exhaust. Yes, I was missing the fiber washer and lock washer looking thing between bell housing and transom mount, got that and just aligned. I needed that hose from water pick up and p/s cooler, but they where over $100 and needed to order. Plus my oil filter is relocated to a horizontal position not the vertical so, the new hose would have and issue of not fitting! So, I went to parts store and searched through the hose room and found an "S" curved 1 1/4" hose, found a reducer to 3/4" (had some of that) and put it all together, worked out great. Still not sure what this "T" in the thermostat to waterpump hose goes to???

Ayuh,..... My guess is, there was a water heater, or cabin heater hooked up to that motor at one time,....

No need for that T otherwise,.... probably wasn't needed then either, but I can't tell in the picture,....

Follow the links found in Don'S Adults Only section, to the factory Merc manuals,....

Yes! There was a water heater but, rusted out so I removed. Think that would pull from lake? Or fresh water tank?

Ayuh,.... For the domestic side, ya, from a tank,....

Ya still need Heat,....

The inner coil uses water from behind the T-stat in the intake, 'n returns it to a port in the circulatin' water pump, or in yer case, to that T,....
There's usually an extra 1/2" pipe plug in marine circulatin' water pumps, for that reason,....

Ooooh yeah. I had a tube coming out of T-stat that I plugged because I couldn't figure out that either. The HW heater that was in there was 120v. I suppose an earlier version had the style you are talking about. Thanks!
