Ok. I ran the motor a bit then removed the lower unit to change the impeller. The drive shaft was wet. Also it was wet around the impeller housing. Is that normal?

Well, exhaust does exit thru the midsection, and gearcase, and the driveshaft is exposed to those two areas, so I would expect the DS to be wet and oily.

Ok. Was just wondering if there was cause for concern of water getting into the engine up from
the driveshaft.

Normally the driveshaft would have a slinger (big a$$ rubber washer) on it above the waterpump. This causes the water to come off driveshaft. You got one?

So I bought a 25" drive shaft to replace my 20" one. The one on my lower unit has a pin on top. The one I bought does not. I didn't realize it was different when I purchased it. I searched the right part# I thought. The Diagram for my engine doesn't show one.

Can the one I bought still be used? I stuck it up in my engine and it fits. It locks in with the crank shaft nicely.

My engine is a 150hp Mercury 1983.

On a side note, Im trying to remove the Propeller but it doesn't come out. Not sure if its locked on or if it's just stuck.
