I bought a boat last year w/ a 4.3L V6 Mercrusier 190hp. I had the bellows, impeller, and throttle cable all replaced. When I was doing a test run yesterday I took the boat out. It took a while to start up and I went out into the bay. I did a turn and gave the throttle a lot of gas and the engine made a puttering noise. It then started to make a puttering noise when I tried to give it gas it literally sounded like "put put put"...then it would die. It seem to have less issues when I was underway at a good clip. Though when I slowed down near the marina, it started to stall and I couldn't get it to start again. Luckily we were close to the marina. This is a 11 year old boat and the mechanic says he didn't remember doing a tune up for the previous owner.

Thanks,

Yeah, you are probably right. Now I need to figure what all I have to buy. I am looking at purchasing: Mallory Tune-up Kit, thunderbolt V-6 9-29317. I assume I can just get the spark plugs and spark plug wires from any automotive store. I think my mechanic also said I should get some spring of some sort. I had one to many when he called :\

Ahhhh Yes, the cheapest of the cheap Chinese junk, that should make your engine run good.

I can just get the spark plugs and spark plug wires from any automotive store.

Avoid champions if you want your engine to run, for plug wires, you need a marine set. The ends are different and marine wires are longer due to routing.

I think my mechanic also said I should get some spring of some sort. I had one to many when he called :\

That may take some explanation .....................

I only see Sierra and Mallory. I heard Mallory was better than Sierra.

Re: Engine troubles, need a tune up?

I did get my mechanic to replace the bellows and throttle cable. The boat was fine last season, I filled it full of 89 Octane fuel from an "ethanol" free marina and put stabilizer into it. I hope it is not the fuel and my mechanic told me it has nothing to do with the throttle cable and bellows replacement.

My mechanic met me out on a jetski and took a look at the carb and said it looked fine.
