Re: Engine Tuner wouldn't

Looking at both the original OMC Engine Tuner can directions and Bomby's.....both cans instruct to soak from 3 to 16 hrs. I've followed can instructions and thus far have had no problems with it. Sea Foam and other tuners may vary so always read the instructions on the can.

I'll post brief instructions below from a 5-6 yr old can of OMC Engine Tuner for 2 & 4 strokes. It will remove tarnish from piston crowns and make them look "box" new but I imagine the later versions are less potent and more environment friendly. They may formulate the tuner to work specifically with their oil ingredients. This can mentions tuner as being "Systems Matched" for OMC engines.

Normal Procedure:
1.Run engine to normal operating temps
2.Set engine speed at fast idle (1200 rpms)
3.Spray entire can into carb and turn off motor
4.Allow 15 minutes or more to soak
5.Restart engine and let run at more than 1/2 throttle for 3 to 5 minutes

Procedure For Severe Cases:
1.Run motor to operating temps
2.Remove spark plugs, set motor in horizontal position and level pistons to close ports
3.Cover piston tops with tuner
4.Let stand for one hour
5.With plugs out, turn over motor to remove cleaner
6.Replace plugs and run as listed above

When the can says to soak for 15 minutes and then run at "more than half throttle", does that mean I have to put it in gear and run the throttle lever up over half? This shouldn't be done on the muffs should it? Or can this be done with the fast idle lever?
1983 Johnson 90 V4 Seahorse

Dave

They are referring to running it in the water at more than half throttle. Best if you can Run the engine tuner through on the muffs and head for the water to blow it out. Don't run the engine above half throttle on the muffs..
