Engine Vibration

1974 2 stroke 70hp outboard
What would cause sudden severe engine vibration? I looked at the blades on my adjustable prop. They were all in proper position. The motor is vibrating so hard I thought it was going to fall off.

Something is out of balance. If the prop is ok then a mount could be gone somewhere. Does it vibrate in neutral?

I have a similar problem with my 76 70hp. The engine started vibrating like crazy. I have searched the board, seems that the most likely cause is a problem with the propeller. My prop has a few dings in it so I am going to get a new one see if that fixes it.

check to see if you engine is firing all cylinders. lost spark or compression could cause vibration

I guess it was wishful thinking hoping it was the prop. I am going to check the spark & compression before buying a new prop. Will update if I find the problem there.
