Would anyone know the weight of a 1960 Evinrude 75 hp. 2 stroke? I have looked high and low. I just bought a 1960 fully restored Cruisers 18ft. with this newly restored motor on it. I would like to replace it with a 70-90 hp. Evinrude. I was told by the seller this was the largest motor made by Evinrude, and is quite heavy. I want to keep in the same weight range for my transom, would like a 4 stroke, so would I have to go down in power to keep weight the same? Is a new 2 stroke relatively quiet? Thanks to all.

Yep, that 240 pound statement is almost dead on, close enough.

A comparable 4 stroke is heavier but certainly isn't going to double the weight. As far as noise goes, The newer fuel injected 2 strokes run smoother so are probably a little more quiet. A four stroke will be a lot more quiet then a 2 but both are loud when running opened up. The main difference is that a 4 stroke has a flatter torque curve so it gives you a little more grunt at lower speeds while the 2 stroke will give you more torque at higher speeds. Good luck with what ever you decide!
