I have an 83 evinrude 35hp that I cant get to rev to high rpms without choking. I have rebuilt the carb and then had it apart again to make sure it was cleaned well. I then rebuilt the fuel pump, and I have replaced the primer bulb and line. still same problem, I have to choke the dang thing to get it to plane, and leave it choked or I lose rpms fairly quickly.

I have also done a comppression check and it reads fine 105&110

You still have a fuel restriction. Is your tank vented?

Check you fuel tank vent to be sure its clear and all hoses for cracks. Especially close to clamps.

If you have a restriction, on the tank side of the pump, the primer bulb will usually go flat.

You are running lean. When you removed the carb, did you replace the gasket behind it?

Revving in neutral does not require the same fuel volume demand as revving in gear(under load).

OK. Did you replace the float?

Are you sure the throttle plate is coming all the way open when you go to WOT?

With the engine not running, put it in gear and push the throttle or tiller hand twist grip to WOT. Take a look at the throttle plate. It should be horizontal or flat in the carb throat. If it isn't...that is your problem.

that was a good idea! one i hadn't thought of but, unfortunately thats not the issue, I just checked it this morning hoping that it was that simple
could it be that the air/fuel mixture is incorrect? I've seen where some of you explained this procedure, and I haven't done this quite exactly like it has been described here. I only have one adjustment on this carb and I'm assuming that it is the slow speed or idle aadjustment

I had a similar problem with the same carburetor. Unfortunatley, I would suggest taking the carb off again and make sure everything is clean. I inadvetently fouled a fresh rebuild reconnecting the old fuel supply line.
