Re: Engine won't start anymore.

And did you set the timing after you got it running?

No i did not. I did check that when the mark is at zero degree, my #1 piston was at TDC and the rotor was pointing at the #1. I think the timing is ok but not too sure.

If you didn't adjust the timing, it should be ok, otherwise you will need to put it into base timing mode to set the timing.

The low battery problem was exactly what I was saying about seeing something and not recognizing it as a problem. With that EST ignition, if the voltage is too low, it will not fire enough to start, It might fire a few times but it won't start.

So beside the battery, the fuel pump is the problem the whole time? When the throttle is up, does'nt the battery voltage go up too? If the battery is bad or low, it would'nt be able to do that right? Therefore, the motor wants to die as the throttle goes up. Ofcourse, assuming the fuel pump is good.

Im 95% sure is fuel pump not getting enough pressure. I took the carb apart and inside looks almost new. Im gonna have to get a new kit though the gaskets need replaced. My carb # is 86614001. Anyone knows where i can find one with a good price?

The new problem is fixed. My lower unit gear was making loud clicking sound when in reverse gear. What happened was, i took my shift cables off because they were in the way of some of the spark plug as i was taking the plugs out to check. Somehow, I moved the cable pivot adjustment bolt so it was'nt engaging all the way in reverse. Wheew! Finally got a break!

Re: Engine won't start anymore.

Thanks achris and everyone who provided me with the infos and advices. I do appreciate you guys for coming back to this thread when you guys have better things to do. What an awesome site this is. I learned a lot. Wish I knew about this site 6 yrs ago when one of older outboard motors went dead. Many thanks and I'll be coming back here often.

I hope you did the complete adjustment procedure on the shift cables. If not you could damage the gears in he lower unit, or wined up with a stalling problem.

A. It in the book.

Thanks achris. I was wondering how I was going to tell him.
Don's probably got a link for the repair manual, but I think he's given up on this guy.

After post #65, I think you're probably right, and I'm getting close to that myself. He's given us just the bare essential information, doesn't seem to know about alternator and battery charging system fundamentals.... can't look up the stickies and search out the information himself.... (so far, everything he's asked is covered in the the stickies)

So, one last time... Here is the book -> CLICK HERE

And just because it's you and I'm feeling generous, the section on adjusting the lower shift cable is in Section 2A, page 13. (BTW, before you ask, you have a right hand rotation drive.)

Ok thanks everyone for the advices. Sry I wasn't able to get back on the result. Just in case anyone wants to know what the problem was, it was the carburetor. I rebuilt it and it ran fine. I sold it after it got fixed.
