Erratic 3 hp Evinrude

3 hp Evinrude 3012-08827 2 cyl.<br /><br />Runs great for 5 to 10 minutes and then it slows down by itself and then speeds back up again. It will do this 4 or 5 times and then slow down running slower and slower until it quits.<br /><br />There is no movement of the throttle or spark advance at all. It is spraying water so water pump is ok.<br /><br />What causes it to do this????

Bill.... That sounds like either the vent in the gas filler cap is not open, or the filter inside the gas tank is somewhat clogged.

Joe the vent is open. I pulled the fuel valve and it has a long strainer on top of it. It looks like part of the valve. How do you get that apart, I also opened the valve with the fuel line disconnected and fuel drained out of the line pretty good.

The fuel shut off valve (the item that one would turn one way or the other to shut off the fuel flow or allow the fuel to flow) simply unscrews from the filter assy.

If I open the valve and the fuel runs out will the filter still need to be replaced????<br /><br />I cannot get the filter to unscrew from the valve, is there a way to clean that filter????

My Bad, the problem turned out to be too little fuel in the tank. While on the trash can the motor leans forward and so did the gas, the fuel pickup is at the rear of the tank. So 1/4 tank of gas turns out to be no gas at all. I filled the tank and the motor ran fine. Duh
