ESKA 15 ...TOO Hot?

Been working on my newly acquired Gamefisher 15 (1981 Eska) ...I had first taken it to the local marine shop and asked them to look it over, went back and pretty much was told never to bring it back! It ran but really rough, one of the parting shots the tech there told me was the discharge water was "pretty warm". SO I've been work on this unit myself, with the help of a maintenance manual I picked up. I have replaced the water pump impellor and the stator and it runs great ...except the water discharge is still "pretty warm" ...almost too hot to put your hand in. I'm looking in the manual and I don't see any mention about temperature ...only that there is a discharge. SO what's the correct story here? As long as I have a discharge it's ok? ...Or is there such a problem as "too hot"? ...THX!

I would worry that if the discharge is hot enough to make keeping your hand in it uncomfortable, it may mean that in gear, in the can, the pump is pickin' up enough exhaust and air bubbles in the turbulent water to rob the motor of water and get too hot. Check the temperature in neutral, and see if it isn't cooler. What did you do with your old stator? I'd give my eye teeth for a dead one of those suckers.

I've been using that expression all my life, nobody ever asked me before, and now that somebody has, I realize that I don't even know what an eye tooth is. Whatever they are, I'd still give'em up for an un-messed with dead 9.9/15 stator. bet you're right about 11echo's t-stat, too. Better get another morphine bump.

My 9.9 runs hot as well. A couple weeks ago I picked up a 15 hp Eska off Ebay for all of $22.50 just for the stator. But now Im thinking of rebuilding that one too. I just need to order some timing tools and the 9.9 should be good to go. At least I hope so

Re: ESKA 15 ...TOO Hot?

great buy, how much for shipping? I bought my original tools from a mom and pop shop for less than the ebayers want for shipping on one item, I intend to devolope tools myself soon and stop that nasty habit of watching our group and this board in order to make filty luker from our sweating backs and over worked above avrage brain capacity's

Those ebay tools are shamfully over priced....weren't so until our yahoo group started busting ground on the repairs for twins because there was 0 demand. LOL now its all worth more :)

I'm up early this AM just admiring the look and feel of my new knee bones so I have been thinking about forming a small company with the help of CPC....yes they have offered there support, I'm just hung up between the intials SCDI or FCDI....surly you can figure out what they stand for, and hey it was nice feeling to see CDI Inc drop the price of a new twin Eska SSI from 250. to 170 over night last week, I say they should be 125$ tops with a 5yr full replacment guaranty.

The shipping was a bit at around $100 but I was fine with that. The motor is pretty rough looking and the valves on the carb were locked up but with a little work I managed to free them and other than some cosmetic defects looks to be ok. I think the 15 will make a nice winter project. I'm sending Ed the CDI from my 9.9 along with the flywheel from the 15 and the pulse transformers so he can run a test and repair the CDI so I should have it all back by spring in time for the next fishing season

You know what, I didn' even relise it was you this AM when I posted....I was more than half delusional along about 1:38 am.
I'm sending Ed some 400v caps and other goodies so maybe you will get some of my parts in there, if I ever get to walk out to the shop again. I have a pair of 400v 1mf black saftey caps with long...... leads that look really cool I'm sending him also. It just all depends on when I can navigate.

Good buy on the twin...congrats, If you would keep your eye open for mahtymaht a good deal.

I need a new hood for my model or I'm going to make a one off

Re: ESKA 15 ...TOO Hot?

I do, and Thanks :)

dss93@shawneelink.com my home mail addy is in your personal message folder

Just So I can repair it an send it on to you Mahty for your eye teeth and of course w/no charge except shipping or at the very least cut it open it and mate the caps to there seat and then mail it on, theres also some extra dremmel work to do on the trigger side of the case on the newer board design, the traces run with in a hair of the post so I make the gap wider...Hey I sure don't want to sound greedy and I know you need it, but I have this burning desire to use my dremmel and solder gun, Oh yeah and play with caps

Oh yeah and part of the deal is if 11echos new one fails we have to give it back...thats more than fair :D

I really don't know how to destall eye teeth, but I'm really quite geeked at the prospect of lighting up that 9.9 next spring.
