You do realize that most anyone can write a Wikipedia article, right? Actually some of that narrative is true.

Ethanol and other alcohols absorb water, allowing it to be burned.

That's always been my assumption -- which is why ethanol has seemed an appropriate additive. Point, however specious, seems to be that ethanol does not combine with water and burn (i.e., separates out the water, but doesn't burn it).
