Heard today that some "Think Tank" folks, estimated that in producing ethanol, with the price of corn, distilling costs, the increases in food costs that ethanol is creating, plus the $.51 cents/gallon subsidy, that taxpayers are coughing up, the real cost of ethanol is about $1 gallon more than petroleum fuel.

Sound's like a real bargain.

It was well known within business circle's that alcohol was not a viable commidity as far back as 1956, and during the 70's oil debacle it was again confirmed.

1. Not enough land is avaible to sustain any kind of sustained output....you see corn or bean's leach the ground of nutrient's and you have change crop's that is corn can only be grown on one plot of land for no more than 3 yr's i believe before you have to put more chemical's in the ground (HEY ENVIROMENTALIST TAKE NOTES NOW) raisng the price of this type of crop to over $7.00 per busshle making it twice as expensive as oil itself......Umm farmer's chime in here

Then's there is the modern engine...Umm no you see the engine was designed around oil and it's lubricating properties......alcohol has none.....and until a complete redisgn of material's used in today's engine's they will never make it on any kind of alcohol substite...but they will run damm fast in a short race...but 30000.00 miles come on guys....welll there are alway's lead substitute's and $100.00 per gallon.

There is enough oil in the ground for a thousand year's. it just a as simple as this. Regan deregualted the oil ind, there are no rules....big oil can legally shorten supply's and no one can do nothing about it because it's league to do so.

In our country there are rules that apply to the Electricty ind, banking Ind, Insurance ind, Health ind...Umm maybe not here........but big oil is the only ind that has no rule's...come on guy's check it our for yourselve's

OIL WAS ONCE CONSIDERED A REGULATED IND, THAT WAS CHANGED AND ANY THING GOES...... and it's just that simple and none of our polotician's wont even dare to go there...it's almost like as evil to talk about as child porn...THERE DO I HAVE YOUR ATTENTION NOW......ANYONE PROVE ME WRONG...

Many of the farmers ain't to happy with it either, at least not the ones that have livestock also. I buy my feed packaged/blended/whatever you wanna call it. My prices have went up a third. Thankfully we have had a weather system cooperating the last 2 years and we have range to turn the animals on. My goats still have to get grain daily and everything gets grain and hay in the winter. I sometimes wonder if I am spending more on feeding them than I do my family.......

Same here, KB. About a 35% increase in feed. I'm now paying ~$80/day for just the grain...close to $1000/month more...

I assuming you are talking about ethanol blended gas (E10) or "gasahol". I mention this everytime somebody brings up ethanol so sorry to those you have heard it before. In Minnesota we have had 10% ethanol blended has for over ten years. It is not optional it's in every blend at every station. A few places sell premium that is not blended, with a sticker on the pump saying it's only for classics cars, lawn mowers, off road etc.

I have never had a fuel related problem in anything I own. Also I have never noticed a difference when a buy fuel out of state. Not in how the vehicle runs or the mpgs. In theory MPG should go down slightly because of less energy in ethanol compared to gas, but in the real world it's not noticeable. Likely due to the high octane value of ethanol.

If somebody does have a problem with ethanol it's likely caused by these 3 issues.

1- the put in E85 in a non flex fuel car. (e85 is 85% ethanol)

2- The gas tank has a lot of water in it. (common in boats)

3- They put ethanol in a older vehicle or engine not desiged for even 10% ethanol.



So run it in your tacoma it will be fine.

1/3 to 2/3 huh? I dare you to run them on 100% ethanol.

That's what I aim to do by leaning it out. Just need to find the program and the adapter to reprogram it. In the meantime, I'm going to see just how much E85 I can add without any modifications whatsoever. I have a 21g tank on the Jeep, and I go through about a tank a week, so every week I'm going to increase the amount of E85 by 1 gallon until I notice a difference in performance, mileage, etc. I just put 8 gallons of E85 in yesterday, and I can't tell any difference, apart from the extra $.55 I saved that is.

South America is killing the rain forests to make ethanol. We all need a little nuclear reactor in our watercraft. (think of the horsepower). Think green, think "new_clearer" energy.

I'm telling you guys, internal combustion will be the thing of the past!

Now can anyone help me get some fuel rods for my reactor? This relying on fossel fuel is getting old. Too much stoking of the fire. It gets into my beauty sleep.

I have a suggestion to satisfy most camps. A fuel that uses what the farmers grow and contains alcohol for cleaner air.

I want someone to develop my ideal vehicle, 100 mpg that runs on the recycled grain that is a byproduct of my beer.

We can spend to put a camera on Mars, why not use that knowledge and money to much better use.

It could probably be done, though not very efficiently. Just think how many beers you would have to drink just to visit the in-laws... wait a minute... you know what? The more I think about it, the more I'm liking the idea.
