Anyone know when the plastic 6gal. fuel tanks were approved for ethanol fuel? one of
mine is dated 1998 and I will replace it if not safe for ethanol fuel. No one I talked to can say for sure when then they were approved..........THANKS..........HAS

What "ethanol fuel" are you talking about, HAS?? E-10, E-15 or E-85?? Or are you planning on running 100% ethanol like the IndyCar guys?

I wonder if this ethanol hysteria will ever settle down. We have been using it successfully for many years* and people still pop up with "the sky is falling" myths.

* including storing it in plastic tanks approved for gasoline storage.

I have never heard of any issues with the garden variety plastic gas jugs. Fiberglass fuel tanks had the real issues...dissolving from the inside, but everything else has been doing fine.

Yep, pretty sure there's no problem with plastic cans or tanks, , I've never heard of one and I've never had a problem. There can be problems with older fuel systems with Buna N rubber components.
Basically, if your not gonna burn a bunch of fuel buy a few gallons here and there that way you will always have fresh fuel, and always use a stabilizer.

Problem isn't with the plastic tanks, it is with the cheap hoses and primer bulbs. Some of them have caused problems. You can just replace the hose and bulb. The new hoses have "ethanol resistant" printed on them.

Well, seeing as how ehtanol has been used in fuel since the early 80's..... NO, you won't have a problem.

Isn't there some new requirement for fuel lines and portable tanks? Something about permeability. Is that the concern?

Alcohol resistant hoses have been in use since the mid-80?s. The reason why you?re seeing so many hose issues is because no one bothers to change them until they fail.

The life expectancy of fuel hose is only 6 years!!!
