A freind told me his older brother took the boat out and disappeared,
they found him tangled in the anchor rope,
apparently he threw the anchor before the boat stopped,
foot got caught in the rope and hit his head going over the gunnel, it happened that fast.
And he always preached to his younger brother "WAIT til the boats stops."
Familiarity breeds contempt.

I watched my daughter take off without pulling up the stern anchor--this was a big danforth on a 19' carolina skiff; soft mud shallow bottom. It just plowed along until she noticed, luckily. She hoped I hadn't, but I asked her, "was the boat running a little sluggish when you took off?"

thought about that scene from 007 Quatum of Solace when i read the title of this post, where bond drops the anchor of the boat chasing him when the 2 boats get tangled together. Great scene..
