Hi all,

On my 1996 Evinrude 115 60 degree motor I have a continuous alarm that sounds imediately after I turn the key and does not go out until I turn key off.

I have disconnected every sensor and harness connection I could find and the only one that turns it off is one of the large harnesses behind the plastic cover on the port side of the engine.

I have heard of the oil tank sender going bad but I havent been able to find the disconnect harness for this ( is this on the engine or somewhere else on the boat )

I just ordered a new alarm to see if this is the problem but from what I have read my current alarm is working fine.

Does anyone know where the oil tank wire harness is on this engine or does anyone have any recommendations for me.
Thank you,

Start looking for the oil tank in the boat, it should be inside a hatch near the stern also you could follow the oil line to the tank and then unplug it there. Most of the guys here will say get rid of the 90's vintage oil pump system and premix.

Follow the wires coming from the oil tank to the mtr and disconnect them at the mtr. Until you get this repaired it may be good idea to run premix in your fuel.

That is the problem, I follow the wires from the tank but dont know if they go to the motor or to the helm. Why would they go to the motor ???.

They go to the wiring harness on the mtr which in turn goes to the helm. There are plugs on the mtr where you can disconnect the tan/black and black wire from the oil tank.

Ok thanks, I disconnected every wire harness on the motor and the only one that made the alarm go off is one of the (2) large ones under the plastic protector cover on the port side of the motor.
I did order a new horn and hopefully that is the problem.

Right now once I turn the key the alarm is constant even before the engine is even started.
I will keep looking.

You could have a grounded or pinched wire on the p/h itself.
