Hi. Working on a 1983 Evinrude 15,
E15RCNC. Removed the power head from the exhaust housing and gear case and a small round donut-shaped, cap-like metal part dropped onto the floor. (See photo). Seems like it has rubber inside the cap (worn). Seems like it dropped out of the long shaft in the exhaust housing that the drive shaft passes thru. I've been trying to figure out what it is and where it goes so I can order a new one.
Poking around, I find that the piece fits perfectly snug when I slide it onto the drive shaft. If I slide it along the shaft, it fits perfectly snug onto the opening on the base of the power head that the drive shaft comes out of on the power head. (See photo). So, I'm guessing that's where it came from (shook loose?) and that it is a seal of some sort? I'd like to order a replacement. I've studied the parts diagram and simply cannot identify the part. Anyone have an idea?
Also: How is this part installed? Do I use a drift or a tube and tap it into place (so it doesn't come loose like this one)? Any advice or wisdom would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Matt
