Evinrude 225 Tilt&Trim big problem

I have a 89 evinrude 225hp on a 21ft daytona, the tilt & trim motor will not go up. I was running and the motor just went all the way down, and would not come up. There is fluid leaking from the bottom right support rod/piston. It is leaking around the outer ring, is that a seal problem, and is it very hard to change? Is there anyway to fix this, I manually hand jacked the motor up and it is now locked in the up position.

Hi supergoose....<br /><br />Not a big deal. Get a cylinder rebuild kit from any Johnny/Rude dealer. But you will need a spanner wrench to get the top of the cylinder off. And make sure the system is de-pressurized before removing. Also check the piston rod for any burrs that may have caused the seal to go bad.<br /><br />Does the motor run when you press the up button?<br /><br />One more thing....get a manual. Will make the job a lot easier.
