My 30 hp Evinrude decided it was going to be hard to deal with the oher day. It started and ran fine until I ran it up to full throttle. At full throttle it coughed a few times and quit. I pulled the cover and gas was pouring out the carb. It would not restart for more than a few seconds at a time. I got it to the dock and the next day replaced the plugs and it would start and run fine until I took it out and throtled it back up and it quit again. It did restart and idle back home. Not sure if the flooding is being caused by the carb or if its in the ignition system. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Re: Evinrude 30 hp flooding

Ignition troubles will not cause flooding, if that is what is really happening.

It does sound like the float or float needle is being blocked or is getting stuck. Do you have an inline fuel filter? How about a water seperating filter? Sometimes debris from the fuel tank can keep the float needle from closing.

Thanks for the info. It does not have an inline filter but I'm going to put one on it before I try to run it again. I did find one of the spark plug wires showing bad with a multimeter. I'm also going to pull the bowl off the carb and check the float and clean everything. Thanks again!
