The photo provided is poor quality- not close enough- to analyze the work performed.

Look at the photo that you posted, not the part in your hand.

Die Grinding the spring will produce low spots on the spring that will not make contact with the hub, thus no friction. Applying the same pressure along the spring cannot be done with the hand held grinder as the spring is always flexing. That?s why it should be done by hand for even results.

Its obvious that you do not know what you looking at, the wear pattern on the spring before you started working on it. Thus you do not understand exactly how the spring interfaces with the hub.

When your Shotgun approach does not work or does not last do not blame me!

PS-Since July 3rd I have put over 100hrs on the repair I performed and all is still working excellent !!
So evidently it works .

Success! I got the last bearings I needed in this AM (needle bearings for the long shaft) so felt obligated to hastily reassemble and test before I missed the tide ;)

Pulled it off, got in the water and it ran great. Sounded perfectly smooth, and of course really made a difference in performance. Not only is the prop much further underwater, so its not pulling air, but the longer torque arm helps to get up and out of the water and onto plane. Much more responsive, higher speeds at lower revs, and much better top speed.

Thanks for all your help! I'll see if I can't snag a picture of the whole setup soon...
