I need some help on an ignition problem. Motor # E48ESLCUS Serial # 0 1503302.

I have no spark at the plugs. I have replaced the neutral switch. I am getting fuel to the plugs. Has new battery. Motor cranks great, but no fire to the plugs. Have traced the fire back to the (what I think) is the control module. The boat was given to me by my father and hasn't been in the water for about 20 + years. My father says the motor only has about 20 hours on it. I have completely rebuilt the boat.

If any one can give me any help it will be greatly appreciated.

Re: Evinrude 48 Ignition System Problems

I had a grounding problem on a 1982 25 evinrude. It smoked the stator & coils nearly every time I tried to crank it. Turned out the ground cable for the starter was attached to a stud from the factory that was corroded in the block. Therefore the starter was grounding back thru the ignition system. After changing the ground to a bolt that didn't hold a water jacket cover on, the problem was eliminated.
The lesson I learned, was that what appeared to be bad was not the root of the problem. One burnt electrical component ruined several others before the remedy was found. Hope this helps.
