Hey guys, on my 1968 fisherman there is male threads where I put the prop. I don't know what I'm missing here but it really confuses me as to why there would be threads.

After you put the prop on and put in the shear pin, you thread on the prop nut and then install the cotter pin to align with the hole in the prop shaft.

no I mean like when I slide the prop on where it is adjacent to the lower unit there is threads on the lower unit itself.

Are the threads on the casing? Does this have a bearing retainer that threads on or are the threads on the prop shaft?

Re: Evinrude 6 hp prop question

OK, what I'm seeing (I think) is the black propeller in the upper right portion of the picture, and the blue lower unit gearcase in the lower left portion. In between is the nose of the gearcase that extends into the propeller a bit. All that is normal, except the nose of the gearcase looks like it is buggered up a bit.....but I don't see any threads.

Sorry Jacob, but it just isn't possible to determine what the damage to the nose piece is from here with what we can see. You are just going to have to take the prop off and examine whatever it is that you have. It can't be that complicated. But rest assured, there are no threads in that area......at least not as it was when it left the factory.
