Evinrude 60 stuck powerhead

I've a VRO 60HP 1987 twin cyl. I've removed 5 of the 8 bolts and the nut from the stud, holding the power head to the lower casing. The other 3 bolts had rusted heads so I had to drill them off. The engine is clamped upside down, and had heat and oil applied followed by attempts to drift out the 3 bolts(and with them the power head)but still the power head will not come free. Am I missing something ?

Might be a stud rear, center, kind of hidden up and under a bit. There is on some of the larger OMCs, might be one on yours...
- Scott

molyslip,

Do you have the lower unit removed?

If not, the driveshaft could be stuck in the crankshaft.

Re: Evinrude 60 stuck powerhead

Thanks for the two replies. First, there is a stud at the rear but I had already removed the nut. Second, no I have not yet removed the bottom end...the gear rod pinch bolt nut has sheared off, but I have managed to disconnect the linkeage clamp from the forward/reverse lever. Once I've got the power head off, I can drill out and remove the pinch bolt and then set about removing the bottom end! ...do you have any other ideas/methods for removing the power head?

I've got the gear shift linkeage off (had to cut it)and now have the gearcase unit off. I still can't get the power head off though. Does it help if I remove the 3 bolts each side of the lower casing, that hold the rubber mounts (on the bottom pivot bracket)in place, so that I can "rock" the case to break the powerhead/exhaust adaptor/lower casing joint(s)?
