Evinrude '71 - 25hp, mystery nipple.

Recently bought a boat with above outboard (not starting). I found a hoseless nipple on the manifold below and left of the carby. The fuel pump has the line from tank connected and line to carby. When draw cord is pulled small amounts of fuel spatter from the "mystery nipple". Should this have a line connected to something, no other loose ends can be seen?

Thankyou in advance.
MK

Welcome!

There should be a hose from the bottom of the front half to the top. Is this the missing hose?

Thanks Dhadley,

There is an intact hose from bottom of the power head to the top. I'm sorry but after talking to an auto mechanic friend, I now know the nipple is actually on the manifold.

I believe there should be a corresponding nipple on one of the bypass port covers and there should be a small diamter hose between them...
- Scott

The manual calls that a "fuel recirculating hose' and it goes from the fuel recirculating valve back into the manifold for reburning.A 3/8" OD hose from the lower starboard side of the crankcase back around to the front.

Thanks Guys,

But, I have seen a manual and there does appear to be a hose where you say in the pictures, however the crank case on my motor doesn't have a hose connection there.

I don't know if I can post pictures here but if it helps I'll email some...

Also, a mate suggested I tee it into the carburetor inlet hose. Is this a possibility?

Thanks all I very much appreciate your help.
MK

Hi Paul

Thanks alot! Looks like you have solved the mystery with your picture.

Are the nipples on yours (the motor that is) two different sizes?

Thanks Again to all who answered my plee :)
Mark

To paraphrase the late, great Peter Sellers, "Dat is not my motor!"

On some engines, the nipple on the bypass cover screws in. Mabey your's got changed with a larger diameter one for some unknown reason?

I guess that's the long way of saying, I dunno...

After getting a chance to actually look at my '72 25 HP today, Paul is right. The manual calls it the "Hose, Manifold to Cover", meaning the By-Pass cover. Mine is a small hose, about 3/16". Didn't pull it off ,so can't help with nipple sizes, but assume they would have to be the same. You may be missing the fuel recirculation hose on your motor if that year came with it.
