Re: evinrude 75hp sport

During the late 1970s early 1980s OMC produced a 75hp based on the 49.7 cubic inch 3 cylinder block. The extra 5 hp from the usual 70hp were from slight porting changes and a higher compression cylinder head. It put out a bit more top end power but it was weaker in bottom torque. It was putting out 1.5 hp per cubic inch. The only other motor that did that was Mercurys 150hp inline six.

You don't want the 75 for skiing or tubing. Poor hole shot, unless you want to play arond with props. Been there.

this boat being given to me if a reprop is all i have in it that is not to bad. only thing that scares me is that it has not run in 10 to 12 years. was fogged when put away but that is a long time.

Re: evinrude 75hp sport

The 75 will be fine for tubing, etc. Just prop it accordingly. I have a 1980 75 Johnson (same as the Evinrude) on my 15-footer and it does the job, even with my 240 lb. brother in law. Hole shot is fine.

The "Sport" name was a paint and graphics package on those models. Nothing more.
