evinrude 88 spl wont start

was warm today so i got out the boats. 72 bomber with the 650 mercury ran like a champ on questionable gas. 80 glasstream with an 88 rude wouldnt start. only 1 out of 8 times did the starter engage the flywheel. it just spun, fresh battery and all?any advice?

How ya' doin' coos? Try this. Take a little WD-40 and give the shaft right above the starter gear a little squirt. Work the gear around a little to get the lube down in. Just a little squirt will do. Then try it again. If it jumps to the flywheel, your in buisness. Lube the starter shaft with some bendix lube and you should be good to go.
