Re: Evinrude 88SPL no power

Almost RA,
Thanks for the info. I am going to tear down carbs tomorrow, if the repair manual arrives by then. If not I will have to work on carbs asap as the repair manual arrives. Might just have to just go wade fishing this weekend.

Anyway, I would like to thank everyone who took time to answer my questions and offer advice.

Again Thanks !!!

Re: Evinrude 88SPL no power

Update and problem solved.
My manual came in late Thursday.
A friend of mine agreed to help tear down and rebuild carbs. Friday morning I picked up two rebuild kits and Friday afternoon we took both carbs off, dismantled and soaked same, installed rebuild kits and put both carbs back on motor. Motor was easy to start, idled fine and had great performance up to high RPM. But it doing this before. I put the rig in the water Saturday afternoon with great expectations. To my surprise the motor acted great, came up to 6 grand quickly with not hesitation. Ran great, I know this is over-reving so I will have to be careful until I get the prop balanced with the rest of the rig. I don't ever remember the engine turning more than 4,600 rpm before.
As a side note, my friend uses one pint of finger nail polish remover (one that has acetone) with about a gallon of gasoline for carb cleaner. Did a great job. On Sunday almost everything went great, except the stupid trout, they didn't cooperate at all. I guess that is why they call it "fishing" and not just "catching".
Gotta go, again thanks for all the information you all offered on this board.
Hope everyone has safe and exciting boating and fishing.
