I have a 1986 90HP Evinrude that I just changed the lower carb bowl gasket that was leaking. I had to take off the air silencer base to get the carb off and the throttle thumbwheel moved on me in the process. I have a clymer manual for the motor, but they give no info at all on adjusting the throttle. What are the initial settings for the throttle thumbwheel, idle screw, thumbwheel on the throttle cam etc. Since I changed the gasket, it takes forever to start and my idle is 750 rpm in the water at neutral. After slipping into forward it is around 600 rpm. I have the idle screw cranked all the way in. What is the initial setting for the spark advance arm that the idle screw moves. I know there has to be initial settings on all this for rigging purposes. Help! It's driving me crazy! At full throttle and trimmed out my max rpm is 4500. The carbs are opening all the way, but I wonder if this is not due to my idle problems. I am pretty sure I should be getting around 5500 rpm trimmed out.

Those adjustment procedures are in the 'Engine Synchronization and Linkage Adjustments' chapter in your Clymer manual. When you read it, it sounds complicated but if you'll read it a coupla times and then follow it step by step, you can do it.

c/6
Hooty
