Evinrude Age Unknown need Fuel Pump kit

I purchased a used Evinrude 20 hp and it runs for about 5 seconds then almost stops, then goes again. I can pump the hand bulb and it will run ok but the bulb takes a while to fill up again.

I am looking for a fuel pump kit. It has on the fuel pump 322-981 and is about 1-1/12" square. The Model is 20R-70C.
with Sn of J3250165.

What year is the motor and where can I find the kit?

20R-70 is a 20hp 1970 model. But its a Johnson number not an Evinrude

I think you will find that Sierra kit 18-7823 will be the one for your fuel pump.

HOWEVER Your statement "but the bulb takes a while to fill up again." is suspicious. It suggests that, if the bulb is Ok, there is a partial blockage between it and the tank... check the fuel pick-up from the tank ...or that the tank is not venting properly.
Check this out first. There may not be anything wrong with your pump at all.

Thanks for the information. It had Evinrude Decals but could have been replaced.

I will borrow my neighbors tank and see it that is the problem.
