I am sending this for a friend so I dont have a lot of specs on his motor.

He has a 90 hp Evinrude. It starts and idles fine. It runs great at low to medium rpms under load. When he punches it, it will rev up normally and then die (shut down) after a few seconds. After that it starts up again and runs fine.

Any ideas out there??

Thanks

Well I hate to say it but a basic health check would be a telling factor.
Compression
Spark
Fuel delivery
Spark plug condition

Go from there.
Sounds though more likely it is fuel related. Pump on it's way out or carb's need a thorough service. That is just purely a guess at this point though.
More details on the motor would help. Year, model etc.

Make sure the fuel tank vent is open. Maybe a problem with fuel pump.

something as simple as the bulb[pump up] hose from tank to engine having slight leaks also will give the same effect,if thats what you use,,,,,so you[or your friend] have quite a few things to look over, there is a number of things that would cause your described symptoms, good luck, let us know what you come up with
