Re: Evinrude fastwin help

It is a 1956 with serials hat begins with 5016. 15 hp, I think it is definitely worth rebuilding it has some more oomph compared to my 1945 lightfour. But I'll keep both and sell all of the others.

You can compare parts numbers here.

The 15hp

The 18hp

edit: Not sure which year Sportwin, but they will have the manual here too.

Did you get the shifting issue sorted out? Your model number is 15016

I have a decent '56 15hp Electric Start Fastwin too, haven't had time to get to it though.

The gears engage as in normal function, but the shifting lever, does not pull the shifting rod up. The other sportwin is a 10016, are they compatible, am I going to have to break the leg from the power head to fix this? I now know that the problem lies with the selector lever.

Near (under) the shift lever there should be a screw that attaches the lever to the "bellcrank" that activates the shift rod.
Maybe yours is out of adjustment?

Look for "Figure - 09" in this article:

Max's articles were republished as "Cheap Outboards" which is a great intro to working on 50's/60's OMC engines.

Yeah sounds like a quick adjustment issue to me.

I got it to run and everything is good now. It was a setting issue on the bell crank. I looked at the sportwin and noticed there was a second attachment point, and then I found one on the fastwin and got it all set up. I'll take it out on the lake today and have some fun. Thanks for all your help and feedback- Jordan

Few times have I been so impressed with a machine. When they say it is a fastwin it IS fast! It was a lot of fun, we are able to ski behind it!

Said it once, Ill say it again. Pound for pound, the Fastwins are the best!

On a side note, Im facing -40 degrees right now, and buried under mountains of snow. Your tales of water skiing are cruel :)

Kidding of course, tight lines and all that. Enjoy the water.

Thats back when a sputtering 2 cycle engine belching out that oil smell was a real thing of beauty and people had common sense that it wasn't going to single handedly kill the environment.

AHHH... the good old days:D
