made the shift pin today and got the exaust gasket.

shift pin was made from a steel dowel pin. painted it to help prevent rust.

Re: evinrude fisherman 5.5 restore

well after 1 1/2 hours at idle i shut it down. never died. after the first couple sputters when it was first started it never coughed again. this is whi i didnt tear into points timing or pistons ect... was sure it ran from before. so total i replaced.

head gasket
head bolts
exaust gasket
motor mount bolts
lower unit bolts and toothed lockwashers
new impeller
new recoil spring and rope
new driveshaft seal washer and o ring and roll pin
new plugs and plug boots
new fuel lines and in line filter
changed lower unit and cleaned and ge greased gears
replaced broken plastic shif pin with steel replacement
decarbonized pistons and head

just need to get it on a body of water to test it out. my boat doesnt have room on the sides for it. need to find a small john. would like to at least test drive her before i decide to sell it or keep it.

working on cowl now. got old catfish decal and the evinrude decals i put on it stripped off and sanded the origional raised lettering off. gave it a coat of primer. tonight i used glazing and spotting (bondo) putty to fill scratches and imperfections. sanded and gave it another coat of primer. camo color goes on soon. and got my decals today as well.

Re: evinrude fisherman 5.5 restore

debating on all that now. i know what i kind of want. but i dont want to be crazy overboard. obviously the start price would be more than ill take. so theres room for haggeling. ive seen 9hp POS with $600 tags on them that needed work, but were newer. i think im gonna put it in the post at $400 and see what happens. i didnt pay a dime for the motor. all i got in it is in this thread. i mean i put gas lines on it back when we first messed with it and new plugs but were talking $10 and i think i paid $8-9 for the first set of decals. i mean its a 1-2 pull motor. i seen one on ebay last week all orig that ran ok. wanted $375 and $175 shipping. still think im gonna put a carb kit on it too first. i mean the paint aint nothing perfect and special. so im not going to be crazy and ask $500-600. and i want it gone. i want a new tent and bimini top. and i had this cleaned and pained and decaled before and it sat 5 years. this time its going.
