I acquired a Fisherman 5.5 Serial number beginning 5512. I am trying to check or replace the impeller. I cannot figure out how to release the shift lever so I can slide out the water pump unit. It does not look like any of the DIY videos on YouTube. It has neither an inspection plate on the lower unit or a screw lock accessible when loosening the bolts under the fin above the propeller. Any suggestions?
Thank you!

On the 5.5 HP you have to remove the powerhead.----Simple job with 7 screws and a few hoses.----Allows you to inspect / replace o-ring and gasket on the mechanical seal on top of the driveshaft.----A good design and the shift mechanism never goes out of adjustment like many newer motors.

Well that's interesting. I figured it had to be attached at the top or the bottom. I'll have to look into that. Thank you very much for the insight. I'll look for instructions on how to remove the powerhead. Nobody local seems to know or want to know anything about this motor.
Thanks again.

Your location ?-----I thought every outboard repair shop could do this job blindfolded.-----I used to do them all the time 50 years ago !!

I'm in Spokane WA. Everyone I asked told me they wouldn't work on a motor that old. Thanks Now I'll try and find gaskets and o-rings
