Re: evinrude fuel problem

Start checking for air leaks, clogged pickup screen in the tank, bad primer bulb, clogged filter at motor, clogged or closed tank vent, etc. If all that stuff is OK, may need a new fuel pump.

Re: evinrude fuel problem

WildeOne is probably correct! No buts. I had a similiar problem which sure seemed like a fuel problem. I have twin 1996 175 HP Evinrude Ocean Pros by the way. I went the whole route of filters, fuel lines, fuel pumps ,etc...turned out to be the Power Pack. About $225.00 if you put it on yourself (not difficult; but fussy). Check www.theoutboardwizard.com, Ralph's a good man to talk to and sells the part with a 10% discount. Possibly someone out there can suggest some diagonistic tips. Look at www.outboardparts.com they have a trouble shooting section. Don't misunderstand me thes guys on this site are crackerjacks...just another thought; that's all. This site helped me to get to my Power Pack problem. Keep an open mind! ;)

Re: evinrude fuel problem

Bulb should pump up hard after 10 to 15 squeezes, depending on how long since the motor was last run. Failure to pump up hard can be an air leak or a fault with the bulb itself. You're filling the gas line and the carbs with fuel when you pump. If the bulb is old, you might replace it ... they're cheap.
