Any one know any thing about this motor? Evinrude Lark III outboard motor with controls. 40HP and manufactured in the 1960s.

I am going to buy it for 40 bucks along with a chrysler 9.9 for 10 bucks

If that's the Lark with selectric shift, I'd walk away. Can be very problematic, the solenoids in the lower unit. Otherwise a workhorse powerhead, don't know what to say about the Chrysler...no experience with them.

Re: Evinrude Lark III?

somebody beat me to the chrysler but I got the evinrude. I had the put the big ole thing in the back seat of my 2001 ford escort. It barley fit. ha ha Anyway I can not look at it untill tomorrow as I have to have some one help me pull it out of the car. It has mechanical shift. It is not locked up and I got the controls and wires with it. For 40 bucks how can I go wrong? I will have the model number tomorrow.

For $40 with controls and not frozen and mechanical shift I'd jump on that deal also! 1 part will cost that if you get another 1 and fix it one up :) (hence why you always need more than 1 of any given old motor :)

I have a lark 3. a 61 model. I bought it without checking the comp first and later found a bad cylinder. The engine is very well made and I have the manual . I dont think mine has the electro shift. If it wasnt for the bad powerhead I would repair it.

Mechanical shift Lark III for $40, plus controls...what a steal. Hope yours has the compression relief, pull starting those horses is a mutha, or that the starter is working. Sweet motors, very reliable and powerful.

Used to have that same old 40 horse rude pushin' my /68 starcraft, actually, not pushing it much.More like weighing the boat down like an anchor. For 4 years, that puppy was in the shop more than it was in the water....what a lemon that was.Traded it for a 650 Merc in /72 & it's still runnin' today!!

I got it out of my back seat and I got the model number.

35524 any one know what that is? it seems to all be there, although it seems there was a nest of rats in it at one time. In a little bit I am going to check the starter and compression.

Re: Evinrude Lark III?

Did a compression test and got about 75 both cylinders. I put some oil down the spark plug holes and going for another reading in a hour or so.
