I have a 1958 evinrude lark 35hp, and a 1960 Johnson 40hp. I was wondering if anyone can tell me what parts are interchangeable? It looks like the starter is the same. Curious about the lower unit, flywheel, carb, etc. Also is there anyplace to look this stuff up? Thanks for the help.

WOW flathead40, that IS a hard question because most engine sites don't go back that far for replacement parts. You may find such info with buying the manufacturer's shop manuals and reading about both engines. Those shop manuals usually cover parts and numbers for such parts as well. Beyond that, I can't think of any other source to see what could swap over... :sorry:

Lower units & mid-sections will interchange, but keep in mind there may be internal differences to the gears or shafts that might prevent individual part swapping. Ignitions will interchange. Carbs may, but it would be a try it and see situation. Depending on the powerhead on the 40 (lots of warranty work on 1960 40s due to broken crankshafts) some of the powerhead parts may or may not interchange (crank & rods). If it has a later powerhead style (with bigger crankshaft) then very little will interchange. The 40 is bigger bore, so the blocks are different in any case.
