Evinrude lightening 3hp. Advice please.

I've just picked up a lovely old Evinrude lightening 3hp. It was running until it was stuck under a bench in a workshop waiting for a new prop about a year ago. I haven't had a really good look at it yet, but it turns over freely and looks in pretty good shape for its age.

First of all, will a prop from a later OMC motor fit this engine? If so, which one should I get?

Second, can anyone tell me the year of this motor? The serial number is 3026 B1589. It is a Belgium built motor.

Third, I'd love to get this engine running, and may even try restoring it to its former glory. Any tips or advice would be welcome.

Thanks in advance
Steve

The model number, 3026, is a 1958, Steviecops.

The correct fuel mix is 24:1, or about 4 ccs oil per liter of petrol.

Correct spark plugs are Champion J4C gapped at .030", and point gaps are .020" (don't have those in mm. Sorry).

Parts and props for that engine should be easily found.

That is one of the best small outboards ever. Congratulations! :)

Thanks JB, that's very useful.
Don't worry about the mm's, I hate anything metric anyway! I don't know what was wrong with our old imperial measurements. Obviously the rest of Europe didn't like them. I'd better stop right there, LOL ;o)

I'm really looking forward to getting to work on this motor. I'll try to post a photo or two of my progress.

Thanks again
Steve
