Before you attempt to make this motor have spark ensure the wiring on the motor is correct. Also check the black wire and black & white wire at the points base plate. They have a habit of falling apart. Pull the flywheel and adjust the points to 0.010 at the widest opening after checking them at all lobes on the crankshaft.
From the switch if you had the controls there is a purple wire that goes to terminal 6 (this is the 7th srew if you include the mounting screw from left) that feeds 12v to amplifier. There should also be a purple from the thermo seitch.
From the amp there should be a black & white wire that goes to the points. Also a blue to coil and grey to terminal 7.
Ensure all connections are clean and free from corrosion.
In theory aplying 12v to terminal 6 or the purple wire on the amplifier will give you spark.
To test the lower unit crank the motor and apply 12v to green wire for nuetral and 12v to blue & green wires for reverse. If this does not make it shift you need to follow the manual for solenoid checks. You do not need controls to test this. When you are buying controls make sure the switch hase been tested as they are NLA and expensive.
