I'm considering purchasing a used pontoon with a 1995 Evinrude 90hp outboard motor, While letting the motor idle the low oil alrm started to sound but stopped when I throttled the motor. The owner said that the motor when at idle loses pressure and the bubble needs to be pumped up....?? Does this sound correct?

So, is the owner accurate? Is this alarm sounding a result of the tank losing pressure, and what concerns or measures should I take? Please help!

Which alarm did you get? One long one, a short one every 2 or 3 seconds?

The tank is not pressureised, oil is drawn up by a vacuam pump. I have gotten false signal's from the sender in the oil box,If possible try a different box.Verify the pump is working by using the directions in the service manual. You have to be sure that pump is working, or if it is not. Don't go by warning signals here. A false signal, or a malfuctioning pump, either has to be corrected.

there is two alarms, one is a low oil alarm that tells you it is time to top off the remote tank when it has about a quarter tank left. The second is NO OIL alarm that tells you the VRO pump isn't pumping oil.

Trace the wires back from the remote tank and disconnect them at the connector. If no more alarm pull the pickup tube out of the remote tank and clean the pickup screen and float assembly for the low oil alarm.

Remember you have to run premix 50:1 in your gas tank while running the motor when you put the remote tank back together and prime the vro.

I had this issue with my 1989 90 HP VRO a few years back--I found when I primed the bulb that there was a pinhole leak in the oil line just below the VRO. I replaced the hose and voila! Haven't had it since
